Jarret Barrios has distinguished himself as a responsive leader and politician. From 1999 to 2007 he served in the Massachusetts legislature first as representative and then as senator, its first Latino and the first openly gay man elected to it. During his tenure, he authored and passed legislature on identity theft, youth violence, health care access and homelessness.  As CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts, he led it through two of the state’s most serious disasters - the Boston Marathon bombings and blizzard Nemo in 2013.  He also served as president of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation and president of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination (GLAAD).  Currently, he is a senior vice president for the California Community Foundation. The son of a Cuban-American carpenter and Cuban-American social worker and graduate of Harvard College and Georgetown University Law School, Barrios was named in 2023 to the prestigious Hall of Fame of the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute for advancing political power and equality.
