Frida Kahlo (1907 - 1954)

Picture
Renowned Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, whose works command higher prices than any other female artist, is noted for her vibrant self-portraits and works that reflect strong nationalist and feminist ideas. Kahlo’s work celebrates rich Mexican folk traditions and her passion for life, despite being crippled with permanent pain, caused by a trolley accident in her teens. Her unique style explores the search for identity, sexuality and the female experience. An open and unapologetic bisexual, Kahlo painted with sheer abandon and honesty. As one critic noted her works are “colorful symphonies of liberation in all of its guises, as beautiful and vital today as ever.”
