​Janelle Monnae (1985 - )

On the anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, it seems appropriate to honor singer-songwriter, rapper, fashion icon and actor, Janelle Monnae, whose songs provide a soundtrack for dance clubs everywhere. Monnae
has received 8 Grammy nominations, won a Screen Actor’s Guild Award and an Emmy Award. Her message as a non-binary person emphasizes the freedom in one’s being authentic self. Her latest project is her nonprofit, Fem the Future, the mission of which is to create opportunities for under-resourced girls and non-binary youth in music, the arts and education.
